Greywolf Golf Course Employment FAQs
1. Where is Panorama?
Panorama is located approximately 3.5 hours South West of Calgary and approx 1.5 hours SW of Banff in British Columbia. The closest town to Panorama is Invermere which is 20 km from Panorama or about 22 minutes from the mountain. Maps and directions.
2. How do I get to Panorama?
If you do not have your own transportation, there are buses running to Invermere through Greyhound Canada, the phone number is 1-800-661-8747. Once you get to the bus station in Invermere, there is a taxi service that runs you up to the mountain; the phone number is at the station.
**Do remember to coordinate your flight and bus schedules as best as you can to avoid a long stopover.
By Car from Calgary
Turn south off Trans Canada #1 onto Highway 93 to Radium Hot Springs. Travel south on Highway 93/95 to Invermere (14km) – Follow the signs to Panorama!
3. What do I need for staff housing & what is included?
You need to bring sheets for a single bed, pillows, blankets, and towel, if you’re suitcase is full then there are a number of discount stores in Invermere where you will be able to pick up these items at a reasonable price. You will also need clothes and any other essentials – we say essentials because space is limited and you will be sharing with others. Your number of roommates depends on the type of unit or house your have been placed in. Your furniture, pots, pans, plates, cutlery, beds, lights, hydro and cable are all included in your unit – you are responsible for keeping them clean and up to standard. No telephones are included so we advise you to make arrangements for a cell-phone or bring quarters for the many pay phones around the resort.
4. What do I do when I first arrive?
When you first arrive you should give your manager a call to let him/her know that you’ve arrived. If you are in staff accommodation (and have confirmed this with Employee Experience, as per the housing questionnaire) you should stop in at the resort central check-in to get your keys and pay your damage deposit. Once you are into your house or have arrived at the place you will be staying – be sure to come up to the Employee Experience Department in the administration building, to fill out your paperwork, get information on where you need to go and to see when you need to go there. You don’t get paid until you’ve filled all of your forms! You need your Social Insurance Number, Health Card Number, and banking information (or a voided check) to get through all of the pages so bring all that with you. For instructions on how to get to the Employee Experience office and/or your place of work at Greywolf – check with the nice Front Desk staff who will give you a fancy map and instructions.
5. Is there Internet access?
Our new staff housing has full Internet service in our computer room. All rooms will also be high-speed internet ready, so if you have a laptop you are more than welcome to bring it.
6. Do I have to supply a uniform?
No – Greywolf will supply you with our standard uniform. Check with your manager to find out what your uniform will consist of.
7. How far is Staff Accommodation from different facilities?
Staff Accommodation is a 20 minute walk tom the Turfcare Facility and 30 minute walk from Greywolf’s Clubhouse. Other Estimated distances from Staff Accommodation are as follows:
Location Estimated Walk Time
General Store and Lower Village 10 minutes
Administration and Upper Village 12 minutes
Invermere 20 km – Long Walk!!
8. Where do we eat/ get food?
There is no meal plan for staff – housing units are equipped with full kitchens and plenty of fridge/freezer space, so you either get to experiment on your fellow housemates with new and crazy recipes or get them to test things on you. There is a general store on the hill that provides the basics (beer, bread and other general food items). Sobeys and AG Food stores, in Invermere, should be adequate for the rest or your shopping needs. You do get discounts at the bars and restaurants at Panorama for those nights you don’t feel like cooking.
9. Do I get any deals because I’m a Greywolf Employee?
Greywolf has high expectations of its staff and, in return, offers many rewards. Our wages are competitive within the resort business and the general area. In addition, summer staff receive complimentary golf at Greywolf (during off-peak hours) and free mountain biking privileges at Panorama. All full time employees are entitled to a discount on food in our outlets – discounts are dependent on the particular outlets. We offer excellent bargains on ski lessons, reduced prices on rental goods, river rafting, horseback riding, and other activities as well as special rates in our retail outlets. As well, staff have access to the swimming pool, hot tubs, saunas, the Panorama Springs water facility and the fitness room. For full time, year round staff we offer a very attractive extended benefit program.
10. Do I get to attend orientation?
You do get to attend a Greywolf orientation! It is a great day to learn about the resort, our service philosophies (to assist our guest, owners and each other,) meet some people from other departments and have some great fun. We will also handout uniforms and nametags. A date has not been set for Greywolf’s orientation but it usually occurs on the Saturday before we open but stand by for other updates. Once you arrive, you should be told when and where your orientation is taking place – be sure to remind your manager/supervisor about it because you wouldn’t want to miss out!
11. Are there staff parties and trips?
Yes there are! Each year we schedule different events and trips for Greywolf employees. Each department is different and will have their own departmental events throughout the season. There is also a year end golf tournament with all Greywolf staff as well as baseball games and barbeques throughout the season.
12. What banks are in Invermere?
We have a CIBC, Bank of Montreal and a Credit Union – you can get your pay directly deposited into almost any Canadian bank or Credit Union, but if you want to do over the counter banking then you’re stuck with these three options. You will have to set up a time with your bank of choice to open your bank account you can’t just show up and open one. If you want to fast track it, you can go with CIBC. You just need to call 250-342-9237 and they will be able to help you out.
13. What else is at Panorama and in Invermere?
The town of Invermere has most services available. There is a post office, grocery stores, and a number of convenience stores, clothing stores, hardware, movie theatre, etc. Panorama has its own grocery store, liquor store and post office on site. Laundry facilities are available on site in the underground parking lot of Horsethief Lodge, on each floor of the Toby Creek Lodge, and in staff accommodation buildings. A dry cleaners and Laundromat are available in Invermere. There are lakes and rivers all around the town and resort so bring your fishing gear! Hiking is fantastic so don’t forget your hiking boots and camera.
14. Are there things I can get involved in beyond work?
There are always events and extra staff needed all over the resort – your manager will be informed of any extra shifts that come available so you can take advantage of them. There are also other things, such as golf, mountain biking, softball, beach volleyball, ball hockey and the Volunteer Fire Department that are constantly looking for people to come out to participate. Get involved and have some great times.
15. How do I stay around for the next season?
If you want to stay on for the coming season (winter) be sure your performance is fantastic and keep eyes open for positions you would be interested in taking on. You need to be in your current position for a minimum of three months before you can be considered for a transfer, remember that a position needs to exist for you to apply. We hold a internal job fair for our current employees – so that managers know your keen, they review your file as well as a transfer form you and your current manager fill out, then they make their decision and let you know. The majority of winter positions commence the first week of December and end mid April.
16. Where can someone send me mail?
The mailing address for the resort is:
(Your Name - STAFF)
c/o (Your Department)
Bag 7000
Panorama Mountain Village
Panorama, BC
V0A 1T0
You pick up your mail in the Administration building – there is a mailbox with the letter of your last name on it.
17. Anything Else?
One final note is on how to prepare yourself financially. Although we will be well underway with pre-season business, the resort is historically slow the first couple of weeks. You will be paid for your orientation, training and any time worked, but work for the Turfcare Department is based on the weather. Spring Snow storms and poor weather may result in the cancellation of shifts. Please make sure that you have enough funds to get you through the first couple of weeks. It may be that long before you receive your first paycheck. Once the season is rolling we should have no shortage of hours – so as they say – “make hay while the sun is shinning” and get involved in as much as you can. Again, for some departments fluctuations may influence your hours – these times are great opportunities to help out in other departments or to take advantage of the natural entertainment we have to offer, but it is worth being aware of before your arrival.
